Madurai Kamaraj University was established in the year 1966. It has 18 Schools with 72 Departments. Directorate of Distance Education of this University has students of about 1.30 lakhs. University has 109 allied Colleges including other accepted institutions as well as 7 evening colleges. There are centers that support research impending of the teachers. The extension activities are performed via NSS, Department of Youth Welfare, Adult Education programs, and SC/ST cells.
Madurai Kamaraj University was named after historical city Madurai, which was ancient capital of Pandyan rulers as well as seat of three well-known Tamil academies, which are going back to beginnings of Christian or even maybe the earlier Era. It was launched on 6 February 1966 in heart of city. Its center was Extension centre of University of Madras situated at Madurai.
Recently this University was given status of the "University with Potential for Excellence". It is a status given by the UGC (University Grants Commission) to nine Universities in Country. The Madurai Kamaraj University was officially opened on 6 February 1966. The University is positioned 13 km away from the Madurai on Madurai-Theni road.
For MCA’s 3 years course the applicants need to have any Degree having Mathematics subject at 10+2 level. To get lateral entry directly in the 2nd year, the applicants need to have PGDCA from any recognized University.
